Well Dressed: Transition Your Wardrobe from Winter to Spring!
For those of us who live somewhere with more than one season, this time of year can be a challenge wardrobe-wise. We still have the chill of winter lingering on some days (sadly) and other days we are reassured spring is indeed here. I had a friend ask me the other day if she could wear her white pumps yet. My response was – not quite yet. My “rules” when it comes to what to wear tend to be more associated with where I am geographically than the date on the calendar. For example – I’d wear my white pumps and white jeans in Miami in March. In Michigan? Probably not until early to mid May. Here’s where transition pieces come into play, like the items I’ve styled here. When paired appropriately, they bring the tail end of winter into spring a little more seamlessly, and of course, fashionably. Each of the pieces I’m wearing I think are great transition pieces. Below I explain why to help you think about what pieces you could incorporate right now as we enter the new season.
Leather jacket/vest – easily a winter piece with the sleeves on (they zip right off easily) and could even be layered with a hoodie when it’s super cold. For spring and early summer, the vest is perfect. This is an item worth spending a little extra on due to its longevity and versatility.
Off-white jeans – the warmer hue goes great with your warmer winter colors you haven’t yet stowed away and the not-so-white color is a great transition to the bright white jeans we’re all so excited to wear come summer. These are my first pair of Free People jeans and I highly recommend! They’re very comfortable and the frayed edges and minimal distressing at the knee is perfect. Price is right too!
Light color suede booties – equally great with jeans, shorts or a skirt, the suede material definitely feels more wintery while the lighter color isn’t.
Color-block bag – the mix of colors makes for a nice year round bag that doesn’t tie you to one season and easily helps transition between seasons with some lighter color (outer edges and center of bag) and some dark color (black). Not to mention black and beige pretty much go with everything!
