Well Dressed: Warm & Cool Colors with Light Denim
If you’re like me, you’re sick of the grey, black and otherwise dark color combinations, as well as dark denim, that we find ourselves wearing in the winter months. We easily think spring when the calendar turns to March 1 yet for most of us the cooler temperatures are around for another 4 weeks or more. So, now’s the time to start integrating spring colors and pieces with your winter wardrobe to make the transition to the new season (prior post I did this here).
Whether we like it or not, denim is going light and stonewash (think 80s but a touch more refined), and I love the newer style of jean I’m seeing that’s being coined as the “girlfriend” jean (pictured below). Like its sibling the boyfriend jean (seen in one of my prior posts here), which is much more relaxed and distressed, the girlfriend style still shows some signs of wear but are more fitted (but not fitted as a true skinny jean). Think Boyfriend Jean + Skinny Jean = Girlfriend Jean Perfection!
When transitioning your wardrobe, think outside the box, aka closet, and try combining warm (olive greens and browns here) and cool colors (cobalt here) that compliment each other despite their differences. I love the way the cobalt pops against the light denim and warm-toned coat. I also did olive green with bright yellows in a past post here, which is another warm/cool color combo I love. Think oranges with blues, beige with turquoise and purple with yellow. As a final note, the pointy-toe pumps are a nice way to add some femininity to this season’s oversized (read menswear) outerwear. J. Crew makes hands down the best shoes I’ve ever owned – great quality, comfortable and reasonable price point.
I’m heading to Hawaii tomorrow so stay tuned for updates from there and for an upcoming post on my daily makeup essentials. I will also continue my spring must-have pieces (if you missed #1, it was the jumpsuit – see it here)! Thank you for reading.
Be well xo
